The 2011 NCTech4Good Conference

The second annual NCTech4Good Conference was a two-day event offering information and networking for staff, consultants, and volunteers for all North Carolina nonprofits and similar organizations.

On Friday April 15, 2011, more than 100 representatives of the nonprofit and technology communities gathered at The William and Ida Friday Center in Chapel Hill, NC, for a traditional conference. The jam-packed conference agenda offered three tracks, each with six one-hour sessions, all presented by NC experts. Links to presentation materials are available in the agenda.

Our generous sponsors demonstrated their products and described their services in exhibit areas at the Friday Center. Special thanks to Google for supporting the conference as a Platinum sponsor.

Webcasts were a new feature to this year's conference, thanks to Gold sponsor Blackboard Collaborate (Elluninate Live). Webcasts were designed to allow folks from across the state to participate. While our intentions were good, we faced some unanticipated technical challenges. We learned a lot from this experience that will help us do a better job next year.

A reception at the end of the day focused on conversation and networking.

The NCTech4Good Unconference

On Saturday, April 16, a smaller group gathered at HASTAC - Humanities, Arts, Science, Technology Advanced Collaboratory at Duke University, in Durham, for a participant-led continuation of the conference — an Unconference — facilitated by Ruby Sinreich, Director of New Media Strategy, HASTAC. The sessions were lively and engaging, covering a cross-section of interests. People walked away with some very useful knowledge and resources on mapping, Drupal, web redesign, and more. Folks also wanted a recap from Friday's conference and provided suggestions for next year. And everyone seemed to have fun!

Many thanks to Diamond sponsor HASTAC for supporting Ruby's leadership role and providing space for the Unconference, and to Silver sponsor iContact for an abundance of good food and drink throughout the day.
