Website redesign triage, Seminar room, session 2: The Scrap Exchange Website

The Scrap Exchange Website: From the beginning

Which CMS to use?

scrapexchange.org

currently using dreamweaver, but can this be converted to wordpress?
the answer is YES!

Also in reference to the fablab startup:

Recommended to start organizing with a CMS, based on what you will grow into in a year or so. Wordpress is easy but not for many users and functions, so Drupal would be something he won't outgrow (yet more complex to run). Drupal can also be hosted with DrupalGardens if you don't have your own server.

idealware.org has comparisons between many CMS platforms.

ruby on rails is a good scaffold for rapid prototyping/development
while perl and python you can get lost in

Looking at scrapexchange.org on the big screen we all critique it and suggest things (wordpress or drupal) that will replicate the fnctionality of the existing site.

To get the wordpress theme to look like the current site would most easily be done with a couple of hours help from someone who will create the theme for you.

Use a sitemap tool to create a spreadsheet of what all the pages are now.

It will take a couple of hours of outside help to get the theme set up, and then the rest of the content moving can be done in-house in half a week or so.
